When we met at the Holborn Library to explore the index boxes for information, it was like stepping back in time. There, old fashioned knowledgeable librarians can be seen in their natural habitat! It was both fascinating and somewhat daunting...The smell was very evocative, old paper, musty and much handled.

Soon we were laughing and discovering the history of the crypt, the church and the area.

Almost simultaneously Liz and I came up wit the same references and idea. It was done. We would collaborate on this project.

We are different people but share some of the same politics and concerns about life and the universe( including Art!).

This was easy, or should I say she made it easy.We went off, duties assigned. When we met in August at the Rodd Residency, it was the perfect opportunity to film an orchard for the planned installation. It was also a further chance to simplify, adapt and finalise the concept.

Collaborating with Liz has been professional, efficient, warm, creative and fun. She is open and curious.

The journey or arc ,if you please, of our collaboration, incorporated new skills, complimentary skills, problem solving, and eventually a site responsive piece of work. We had grand kitsch plans for the space but it dictated what we did in the end. The environment was stronger than our will. I felt good about what we did. It was fitting.

When we discussed our install with the curators(who were marvelous)it was a great lesson in negotiation. We all agreed less is more.

I am extremely proud of Devine Morison. I think there might be more in the future........This of course has proved to be the case...we are not done with PARADISE.

I have thought much about why we are so drawn to the theme of paradise. It doesnt take much analysis to know that it is the ultimate goal.

Whatever YOUR personal paradise is...we all crave it.

Even with its religious connotations and superficial associations, it is a state of mind, place and undeniably universal concept.
