Peter kennard

I was completely fascinated by this retrosoective at the Imperial War Museum. It was entitled Unofficial War Artist which I found curious.

On walking around, reading closely the material provided on display, and then combining this with the visuals I soon understood why. He is a "social soldier", concerned with the plight of ordinary people whilst angry with the posturing and arrogant leaders of our society.

He is intelligent about his anger. He uses it effectively to entertain, shock and prick our conscience. He is not a Cork Street/Bermondsey artist.

He is bringing his art to the masses of non-gallery visiting individuals who read newspapers etc. I respect this. I also respect the variety of material and opinion available in the exhibits of the Imperial War Museum. I just wish they would consider a name change. I know this is too radical for most people, but it's name seems incongruous with the museum's makeover.
