Women in Revolt

This was a really disappointing experience. It was billed as an evening of films directed by women but when we got there 2 of the films actually had male directors. My overwhelming feeling about the whole event was that the films shown, although very technically competent and impressively edited, mostly lacked any developed narrative or concept.

They were skilful and boring.

I lost interest after number 3 and started to observe the audience. This was much more interesting. I understand that film events of this kind are useful for young professionals to network and critique each others work, but in practice, the audience is mostly made up of friends who are primarily there to support you, therefore cheer as required and drink beer.

I thought I would leave with lots of impressive ideas but I left thinking waste of time and money. Im finding it difficult to be bothered to write much more. It was genuinely very underwhelming. Not to be repeated.

Just as a footnote, the image above is, I think, from the poster for "Rosie the Riveter". A famous war time movie about munitions workers in New York.

This evening was anything but riveting.
