This was a steep learning curve. We appeared to have thought of everything and organised ourselves very professionally, but infact all did not go quite to plan. We decided to collaborate with Chelsea curation MA.

They seemed very impressive, with meetings and gallery mock-ups, floorplans and constant communication but they underestimated the task of marshalling 38 MFA students.

They did their best I believe. Unfortunately people are all different and some less professional or independent than others. Therefore, there were the inevitable late submissions, changes of artwork on the install day and general Diva behaviour from a few individuals. I am glad we had this experience at this point in the year because it armed us for future exhibitions later in the year.

I was guilty myself of a lack of forward planning, resulting in not being able to show my video and having to settle for a still image of the video. I was so frustrated with myself but I know afterwards that I would never be in that position again.

The most enjoyable and successful part of SHIFT was the opportunity to rearrange the exhibit everyday ourselves. This was so stimulating. I knew then.... I like curating.
